Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation:

Breathe and direct your thoughts to contacting God. Let your stomach be a balloon inflate, deflate.

Bible verses for Meditation:

NRSV
John 15:
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
15 I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father.

ESV
John 15:
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
15 No longer do I call you servants for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.

Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation:

It is good and right to talk of love. To talk of loving others. The reality is that we don’t always do this. If this was an easy thing to do we wouldn’t need so much guidance and help to do it. If it was really as easy as wanting to love we wouldn’t need God’s continual grace to help us overcome these dark beating of our hearts. There are times when we hate. Times when we fail at our goals. When we rejoice in the feelings of rage in our hearts. We nurse our injuries and grudges.

At this time consider these words. Consider the words of Jesus who said that we are his friends if we do what he commands. If we know what our master is doing and we follow it, Jesus says we will no longer be his servants. Imagine this imagery for a moment. What would it be to be Jesus’ friend?

Now imagine Jesus stretching out his hand to you, to invite you to open your heart and letting all the hate out.

Meditation of Prayer:

Pray as directed by the Spirit.

Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him.

Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm:
I invite you to sit in silence feeling being patient for your own faults and trials.

Summarize what insights you have gained during this meditation and meditate and visualize positive change in your life:

Final Question:
Who is someone you can do a better job of loving?

Final Thought:
As God loves you, love one another. As you go through your week and you experience resistance to love remember this message. Think of your experience with opening your heart to God during this time. As we make continual effort to reject hate from our heart and embrace God’s love we will feel our joy be full as we truly abide in his love. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. His love will bring the Kingdom of God to our lives. This Kingdom will go on for all time and more specifically will begin in this life to the degree we live in his love.
